Meet the Masters

Meet the Masters.png

Our students love the Meet the Masters art curriculum! This three step approach to learning includes a multi-media presentation about each artist, a hands on technique worksheet and an individual art project inspired by the artist’s techniques.

Presentation: PowerPoint presentation including interactive questions, a virtual art gallery and information about the artist’s life and history.

Student Workshop: Using a self-guided packet, the students reinforce what they have learned by practicing the techniques that are most attributed to the artist.

Student Art Projects: The unit culminates in a project where each student demonstrates their newfound knowledge of the artist’s medium, subject matter and/or style to create their very own art piece.

The program is designed in multiple levels so students of all ages can learn and grow in their creativity and artistry.

Please check out the Meet the Masters website if you have any additional questions.

Mosquito facts

Hello families,

Have you noticed a rise in biting mosquitoes recently? The Napa Valley Register printed a story about what's going on; read it here.

Here are a few mosquito facts for our students, parents and members of the community who use school playing fields.

  1. The salt marsh mosquito does NOT carry West Nile virus or any other disease. The bite can be painful and leave a welt.
  2. Salt marsh mosquitoes breed in tidal marsh water, not fresh water, so standing water on campus or irrigated school fields are not a source of the mosquitoes.
  3. This is an unusual event, and the Mosquito Abatement District expects the hatch to be over soon.

Neither mowing the grass nor reducing irrigation will reduce the number of mosquitoes, so we will not take those steps. State law will not allow us to use insecticides on the school campus. So our best option is to wait until the adult mosquito activity is over.

In the meantime, long pants and long sleeves can help protect your child from mosquito bites. School staff will monitor the situation at each school and will take proper steps to reduce your child’s exposure during the school day, which may include keeping children off of grassy areas or fields, etc.

First Christian School Re-Named as Veritas Christian Academy

Top Napa Private School Celebrates 20th Year with New Name and New Focus

VCA Final White With Lion.png

7/10/18 Napa, CA: Veritas Christian Academy (VCA), a leading preschool – 8th grade private education institution in the Napa Valley has announced a new name and curriculum focus, as the school enters its 20th year. Founded in 1998, as First Christian School of Napa, the institution has long been regarded as a place for positive and academically excellent learning experiences, delivered in a safe, family-focused environment. VCA students have excelled in preparation for higher education and later in life.

The name change comes as part of the school’s strategic vision to expand its reach to the greater Napa Valley. Rather than being linked to a single church, the school will now work to foster a support network of multiple churches, community organizations, families and individuals.  Earlier this year, the school announced a multi-campus approach, which will commence in September 2018. Preschool through 5th grade programs will remain on the First Christian Church campus, now referred to as the VCA South Campus.  Middle School, 6th-8th grade, will move to the Grace Church campus, now referred to as the VCA North Campus.

Coinciding with the new name and multi-campus strategy, the school will take on a STEAM-based curriculum focus: Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. STEAM is an integrated approach to learning, which requires a purposeful connection between standards, assessments, lesson design and implementation. The goal of the STEAM program is to deliver a more active and well-rounded academic experience.

“2018 is a banner year for our school on many fronts,” said VCA Head of School, Dawnelle Ellis. “We celebrate our 20th year with a new name and re-affirmed focus on delivering an outstanding education to our students. The heart of our new name, Veritas, is Latin for truth. Teaching truth, God’s truth, is the core of our mission. We couldn’t be more thrilled to begin this new era for our school and the entire Napa Valley community.”

About Veritas Christian Academy:

Veritas Christian Academy (VCA) was originally founded as First Christian School in 1998, with the mission of partnering with parents to provide their children with a challenging academic education instilled with Christian values. Since that time, the school has grown to include award-winning preschool, elementary and middle school programs. VCA students overwhelmingly enjoy their school experience, and graduate with lives of purpose, service and leadership. VCA features academically and emotionally well-rounded STEAM curriculum, effective student-teacher ratios, outstanding test scores, dual-accreditation and a distinctive family atmosphere. Notice of Nondiscriminatory Policy as to Students:

Veritas Christian Academy is a business of Napa Valley Christian Education Group (NVCEG), a 501(c)(3) organization. NVCEG schools admit students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It doesn’t discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school administered programs.

New School Name - A new era for our school!

independence day.jpg

Happy Independence Day! This day not only marks the celebration of our country’s independence, it also introduces an exciting new era for our school. First Christian School has operated as a ministry of First Christian Church of Napa since our inception in August 1998. The church has acted as our “parent” for the past 19 years, and now we are ready to graduate into an independent institution, as God calls us into our future.

Therefore, we begin our 20th year as a multi-campus independent Christian school. Preschool through 5th grade programs will remain on the First Christian Church campus, now referred to as the South Campus. Middle School, 6th-8th grade, will move to the Grace Church campus, now referred to as the North Campus.

With this new era comes a new name. The reason for the name change is to create a community school system that is supported by a network of Christian churches, verses just one church. I’m thrilled to announce that new school name will be Veritas Christian Academy. Veritas is Latin for truth. Teaching truth, God’s truth, is the core of our school mission. We have also created a new 501(c)(3) corporation to manage all business operations related to the school. This corporation has been named Napa Valley Christian Education Group. The corporate name allows us to grow as God leads us into a bright educational future.

Local Report: Young rider successful in BMX

When hard work and aptitude come together, great things can happen. Napa’s Arabella Gerosa, 9½, has trophies to prove it.

New to bicycle motocross, she has had success locally, in state, and now at the national level.

As a member of the Napa Valley Pull BMX, she raced to three first-place finishes in her division in her first national competition Jan. 12-13 in Las Vegas, Nev.

While Gerosa often rides bikes with her father, she started in BMX only about three months prior to her first competition and had just completed the beginner league at North Bay BMX.

The First Christian School fourth-grader also plays soccer and lacrosse in community leagues.

She is the daughter of Phil Gerosa and the late Aine Kelly, and the granddaughter of Carole and Keni Kent of Napa. Her maternal grandfather, Tim Kelly, was a state and national road racing champion as well as an Olympic cycling coach. Her paternal grandparents are Joe and Marlene Gerosa of Napa.

First Christian School to Open New Middle School Campus for 2018-2019 School Year

Logo clear backdrop.png

1/30/18 Napa, CA: First Christian School (FCS), a leading preschool – 8th grade private education institution in the Napa Valley has announced plans to expand its educational footprint to a second campus.  Commencing with the 2018-2019 school year, FCS will move all middle school classes and activities to a state-of-the-art campus shared with Grace Church of Napa. Coinciding with FCS’ 20th Anniversary, this move signals a new vision to serve a broader range of families seeking a first rate Christian education.

FCS has long been regarded as a place for positive and academically excellent learning experiences, delivered in a safe, family-focused environment. FCS students have excelled in preparation for higher education and later in life. The new middle school campus will allow the school to provide an even more well-rounded educational experience, while opening doors for expanded community involvement.

“We are thrilled to enter our 20th year with a new multi-campus approach,” said FCS School Administrator, Dawnelle Ellis. “Middle school is a critical period in a child’s development, and we are committed to delivering not only an exceptional faith-based education, but a place for students to develop into intelligent and compassionate human beings. This new campus will allow us to fulfill our mission and build a positive family community that reaches beyond specific church affiliations and denominations.”

FCS leadership had been actively seeking an optimal go-forward solution for the middle school, which provided opportunities for both growth and stability. After much discussion, the leadership boards of both First Christian Church of Napa (FCC) and Grace Church agreed to come together to provide a multi-campus solution. Through this plan, preschool through 5th grade will remain on the FCC campus, and middle school (6th-8th grade) will move to the Grace Church campus. The new middle school campus will feature dedicated classrooms, a youth activity room and a multi-purpose gymnasium.

We will be in touch with more specifics on each program in the coming days and weeks. Keep an eye on your email inboxes, the FCS Blog and the FCS Parents Facebook page for additional information.

2017 Christmas Events

Preschool Christmas Program – Come to the Stable

When: Wednesday, December 6th

Where: Worship Center

What Time: 4:00pm

What it’s All About:

Enjoy our adorable Preschoolers as they get their country on this Christmas! Share the story of how Jesus our Savior was born to us in a stable. We’ve got Shepherds, we’ve got Angels, we’ve got Magi…and Preschoolers aplenty! Children are encouraged to dress in plaid shirts and jeans or jean skirts. Boots are not required, so no need to make a special purchase. Also, hats are not required for the stage. Any hats worn during the day will remain in the classroom. Words of wisdom: We highly recommend that you not overdress your child in tight clothing or heavy shirts. The stage will be hot, and your child won’t be happy.  We also recommend that your child tests out the clothes the night before the program, so they’re comfortable in the outfit.  Being on stage and under the lights is a whole new experience if a child is uncomfortable! Also, if you have any lamb or sheep stuffed animals, we’d love to use them as props.  We need a “herd” of about fifteen, which will of course be returned if requested. For more information, please email Come on down y’all!

Grandparents/Friends Day – It’s A Family Thing

When: Thursday, December 7th

Where: Activity Center and Worship Center

What Time: Preschool Brunch 10:00am; K-8 lunch 12:00pm

What it’s All About:

This is an opportunity for your kids to celebrate the special people in their extended family: grandparents, aunts, uncles and/or other adult friends. A light brunch will be served for Preschoolers and their guests at 10:00am in the Activity Center.  Lunch will be served for K-8 Students and their guests at 12:00pm in the Activity Center. Everyone is invited to a special “dress rehearsal” preview of the K-8 “Christmas Shoe Tree” Program at 1:00pm in the Worship Center. Please RSVP HERE by 12/1/2017. Space for Brunch and Lunch is limited and available on a first come, first served basis. Once we reach capacity, we will not be able to accept additional participants. The 1:00pm preview is open to all grandparents and special friends ONLY.

K-8 Christmas Program – The Christmas Shoe Tree

When: Friday, December 8th

Where: Worship Center

What Time: 7:00pm

What it’s All About:

“The Christmas Shoe Tree” musical program was created specifically for churches and schools. The story is about a family of siblings who own a Christmas tree farm. Each year, the siblings collect shoe donations that get placed onto the Christmas trees as decorations, and then donate them to people in need. The musical centers on a school field trip to the Christmas Shoe Tree farm. It is an inspiring story about how a community can come together in a unique and powerful way to truly make a difference…one pair of shoes at a time. This holiday musical is lots of fun, with colorful characters and excellent music. See below for a special giving opportunity tied to the message of this musical. For more information, please email

2017 Christmas Giving Program – Family to Family

This year, First Christian School will partner with First Christian Church and the Napa Salvation Army to support 30-40 families directly or indirectly affected by the recent fires. The Salvation Army is already actively supporting these families, and the First Christian community will join in this unique “Family to Family” effort. FCS families will be asked to purchase $25 gift cards from Payless Shoe Source and/or Famous Footwear to go toward the program. These gift cards will be combined with similar gift cards (from other retailers) donated by the FCC community. 100% of these donations will go directly to the affected families. The giving period for FCS families will begin on Monday, November 20th and end on Friday, December 8th.  We will also provide an extended giving period for families who wish to present gift cards following the K-8 Christmas Program on December 8th.  Gift cards collected between December 11th and December 15th will be presented to the Napa Salvation Army to go toward their broader outreach efforts. We encourage everyone to share the love and generosity of Jesus through this special giving program. For more information, please email

So Much to Be Grateful For

It has been wonderful to experience the sights and sounds of school being back in session following two weeks of uncertainty related to the recent fires.  While we are grateful that the FCS family was largely unaffected by the fires, some of us did experience damage and evacuations.  These events were a somber reminder of what really matters in our lives. Our prayers of thanksgiving are matched by prayers for hope, resources and recovery for all of those directly affected.

We are also thankful for the immediate and ongoing actions of the many response teams who came from near and far to help our community and surrounding region. Many of these heroes are very close to us, and our love and appreciation for them cannot be fully expressed in a simple blog post.  We will have the opportunity to thank many First Responders directly during Chapel on Wednesday, November 8th, from 8:30-9:00am. Many of our local First Responders will be in attendance, and we encourage everyone to come and express gratitude.

We would also like to express our appreciation to FCS parents and staff for their patience and understanding during a very uncertain time.  We know that schedules were thrown into disarray, and are grateful for the many people and businesses who stepped in to help keep our children safe, active and entertained during the school closure period.  We also appreciate our parents’ collective understanding as we cancelled parent/teacher conferences to give us extra school time this year.  Progress reports were put in parent boxes last week, so please check your family box in the Front Office if you haven’t received these reports.

As things get somewhat back to normal, we will be in touch regarding upcoming events. This includes the re-scheduled State of the School meeting on Wednesday, November 8th at 6:30pm, Christmas programs and special giving opportunities related to local relief efforts.

On a happy note, we released a new school video this past week. This is a wonderful example of what we've all come to love about First Christian School, and we encourage you to share it with as many people as possible.

Thanks again for your prayers, patience and partnership.
